Wealth Advisor, Professor, Life Planner, Parrothead
While Jason Slone has letters and certifications after his name—including a PhD and the Certified College Financial Consultant® (CCFC®) designation—he prefers to lead with the roles that matter most: Husband to Krista, Dad to Andrew, Nicholas, and June, and “treat-provider-in-chief” to his dogs, Stella and Beaux.
A “Folksy Philosopher” Who Actually Studied Philosophy
Jason is a Wealth Advisor with Etch Financial, serving neighbors in the Savannah area and across the country. He’s often compared to investing legends Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger for his down-to-earth folksy wisdom. But there’s a twist: unlike his heroes, Jason is an actual philosopher.
With a BA from Wooster, an MA from Ohio State, and a PhD from Western Michigan, he’s spent his life exploring the “big questions.” He’s been a college Professor since 2002 and even served as a Dean for seven years. You can still find him in the classroom today at Georgia Southern University, where he still teaches classes in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies.
Financial Advice Born from Real Life
For Jason, financial planning isn’t just about the math; it’s personal. The complex hurdles he helps families clear are the same ones he’s cleared at his own kitchen table:
- Cracking the code on college costs and student loans.
- Building a retirement that actually feels like a reward.
- Trimming the tax bill and securing the right insurance.
- Making sure there’s enough left over for that well-deserved family vacation.
Expertise You Can Trust
Jason first caught the “finance bug” as a student intern in the mid 90s and became a fully licensed Advisor in 2008. Since 2019, he’s specialized in helping high-income families navigate the high-stakes world of college planning.
In addition to his work at Etch, he serves as a Senior College Planning Expert with College Aid Pro, where he helps families nationwide find more financial aid and less stress.
“I’m in the ‘life planning’ business, the ‘stress relief’ business, and the ‘recreation and tourism’ business. Because financial planning isn’t just about spreadsheets; it’s about making sure you have the freedom to live your very best life.” – Jason
Off the Clock
When he’s not deconstructing a complex portfolio or giving a seminar on social security and medicare, you’ll likely find Jason where the salt air is thickest. He’s an avid fisherman and boater around Tybee Island, GA. And, as a devoted member of the Savannah Parrothead Club, he also spends his time strumming his guitar at charitable fundraisers, “partying with a purpose,” channeling his inner Jimmy Buffett to give back to the Savannah community.
